“…The 13 C NMR spectrum displayed five carbon signals attributed to twenty-eight carbons, with signal at δ C 14.4 assigned to the terminal methyl C(1) and C(28) and four other signals at δ C 23.0 (C-2 and C-27), 32.2 (C-3 and C-26), 29.6 (C-4 and C-25) and 30.0 (C-5 to C-24) assigned to the methylene carbons. Octacosane (3) is a known hydrocarbon and was previously isolated from other plants such as Euphorbia esula, Heracleum sphondylium and Moschosma polystachyum (Farnsworth et al 1968;Lawrie et al 1968;Rajkumar & Jebanesan 2004) and was reported to display mosquitocidal activity. The experimental data were similar with those of the reported data (Sigma-Aldrich 2017; Speight et al 2011).…”

“…It is believed that insect resistance is less likely to occur because many botanicals contain multiactive principles. The pest control principles include properties of insecticide, antifeedant, repellent, chemosterilant, attractant, juvenile and anti-juvenile hormone, moulting and antimoulting hormone, nematicide, rodenticide, fungicide and bactericide [9][10][11] . Sivagnaname and Kalyanasundaram [12] evaluated the methanolic extracts of the leaves of Atlanta monophylla (Rutaceae) for mosquitocidal activity against immature stages of three mosquito species, Cx.…”

“…The repellent activity of active compound octacosane was from Moschosma polystachyum against the vector Cx. quinquefasciatus [23] . The essential oil of Zingiber officinalis was used as a mosquito larvicidal and repellent agent against the filarial vector Cx.…”
