Most rare subtypes of cutaneous lymphoma display variable CD30 expression: analysis of the German Cutaneous Lymphoma Network

Abstract: coding for the IFN-induced Mx protein in skin biopsies from patients with chilblains. 4 The Mx protein sequesters viral factors required for viral replication. 6 Furthermore, an IFN-induced transmembrane protein may inhibit coronavirus replication. This could explain why PCR tests are mostly negative in patients with suspected COVID-19 chilblains. 4 Battesti and Descamps reported that patients with moderately severe COVID-19 had high circulating levels of IFN-1. 4 We hypothesize that in young adults with effic… Show more

“…Consequently, CD30 is expressed in a wide range of reactive skin conditions (i.e., arthropod byte, molluscum contagiosum, etc.) [41], and notably in several systemic and cutaneous lymphomas [42]. In addition to tumor MF, CD30 is typically found in Hodgkin lymphoma, both systemic and pcALCL, and LyP.…”

“…In addition to tumor MF, CD30 is typically found in Hodgkin lymphoma, both systemic and pcALCL, and LyP. Aberrant CD30 positivity is also observed in other skin lymphomas, such as certain CBCL subtypes, and lymphoproliferative disorders (LD) in HIV-positive patients [3,32,42].…”

“…Approximately 32% of classic MF and 59% of transformed MF cases are CD30-positive [ 3 ]. Rare CTCL subtypes including subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphomas, aggressive epidermotropic cytotoxic T-cell lymphomas, and NK T-cell lymphomas, among others, have also been shown to express CD30 to varying degrees [ 3 , 89 ]. Brentuximab vedotin is therefore indicated in Europe for the treatment of patients with CD30-positive CTCL who have received prior systemic therapy and in the USA for patients with C-ALCL and CD30-positive MF who have received prior systemic therapy [ 6 , 7 ] (although the exact cut-off point for determination of CD30-positivity for most CTCL is still a matter of debate [ 3 ]).…”
