Mothers’ perceptions of factors affecting their abilities to care for infants with allergy

Abstract: Mothers of allergic children should be recognised. An inquiry or questionnaire based on personal abilities and the family's internal and external capabilities may contribute to identifying these mothers. Mothers should be provided with individual encouragement and support from mother and child health clinics by focusing on factors felt to be strengthening ones.

“…In Japan, the food allergy environment has changed considerably in the past 10 years, including the standardization of diagnosis and treatment (Ebisawa, ; Japanese Society of Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology/Food Allergy Committee, ) and the expansion of social support (The Initiatives Propulsion Committee for Allergic Disease in School, ; Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, ). Mothers of 1–2 year children with atopic dermatitis or/and food allergies report experiencing stressful situations (Alanne et al, ).…”

Mothers often feel unsuccessful when they cannot proceed according to suggested feeding guidelines (2). The organ systems most commonly involved in food allergy include the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and respiratory tract (3).…”
