Purpose To investigate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effects of a theory-driven multimodal cancer rehabilitation intervention (MCRI) programme among Hong Kong Chinese women treated for female reproductive cancers (FRC). Methods A single-blinded randomised controlled trial was conducted in two regional hospitals in Hong Kong involving 35 women treated for FRC. The intervention group (n = 18) received a 12-week MCRI which included 30 modules of app-based health education and three nurse-led individual counselling sessions. The control group (n = 17) received attention from the research nurse through telephone calls. Sense of coherence, health-related quality of life, and cancer-specific distress were measured at baseline (T0), immediately after completion of the intervention (T1) and 12 weeks post-intervention (T2). Twelve intervention completers were interviewed to explore the acceptability of the programme. Results Recruitment, consent, and retention rates, counselling session attendance rate, and app usage were satisfactory. The intervention participants reported to have significant improvement in physical well-being at T1 (Cohen’s d effect size (d) = 1.04, 95% CI 0.24, 1.83), sense of coherence (d = 0.76, 95% CI − 0.03, 1.54), and cancer-specific distress (d = 1.03, 95% CI − 1.83, − 0.21) at T2. Interviewed participants acknowledged the benefits of the programme and provided comments for improvement. Conclusions The MCRI is found to be feasible and acceptable and may improve their sense of coherence, distress, and physical health. A full-scale trial using a larger and more representative sample is warranted to confirm the effects of the programme. Implications for Cancer Survivors Women treated for FRC may be benefited from the MCRI in improving sense of coherence, physical well-being, and distress. Trial registration This trial was registered on ISRCTN registry with ID ISRCTN73177277.

AimTo assess early postoperative core symptoms in oesophageal cancer patients and their relationship with resilience.BackgroundPatients with oesophageal cancer face a high number of severe symptoms in the early post‐operative period and require the development of an effective symptom management programme. Identifying core symptoms through network analysis helps in accurate patient care.DesignA multicentre cross‐sectional study.MethodsA cross‐sectional survey was conducted from August 2022 to August 2023 at three hospitals in Anhui Province, China. A total of 469 patients were recruited for this study and 418 (89.1%) patients completed this investigation. Using network analysis to find early post‐operative core symptoms in oesophageal cancer patients. Multiple linear regression was used to analyse resilience factors affecting core symptoms.ResultsSadness was the most core symptom in oesophageal cancer patients in the early post‐operative period (rs = 1.41), followed by incision pain and difficulty breathing while resting (rs = 1.20, rs = 1.08). Resilience was significantly associated with patients' feelings of sadness, with optimism having the greatest impact on sadness (p < .01).ConclusionSadness is the most core symptom in patients in the early post‐operative period and special attention should be paid to improving their level of resilience. Local symptoms and dysfunction in the early post‐operative period should be treated in a synergistic manner.ImpactThis study identifies core symptoms and their relationship to resilience in patients with oesophageal cancer in the early post‐operative period. Symptoms as the main core symptom in patients in the early post‐operative period, which was sadness and was significantly associated with resilience. Background At present, clinical nutritional care for patients with pancreatic cancer focuses more on the observation of the effect of enteral parenteral nutrition, and there is a lack of personalised care plans for weight-loss control. We used the Delphi method to construct a set of personalised nursing programmes to effectively control the rate of postoperative weight loss in patients with pancreatic cancer. Methods This study was a cross-sectional investigation. Through literature analysis, literature review and data review, a personalised nursing plan for the postoperative weight-loss control in patients with pancreatic cancer was preliminarily developed. From October to December 2022, the Delphi method was adopted to conduct two questionnaires for 32 experts working in fields related to pancreatic diseases in Grade-A tertiary hospitals from four different departments. After statistical processing, the personalised nursing plan was determined according to the perceived level of importance, coefficient of variation, full score rate and recognition rate of the indicators. Results The recovery rates of the two rounds of consultation were 93.75% and 100%, respectively, and the overall authority coefficient of the experts was 0.918, which represented ‘authoritative’. In terms of importance, the coefficient of variation was 0–0.137; in terms of feasibility, the coefficient of variation ranged from 0.09 to 0.194. Finally, a scheme consisting of 36 entries in 8 dimensions was built. This programme is comprehensive in content, meets the nutritional diagnosis and treatment needs of patients in the stage of postoperative rehabilitation, provides relatively comprehensive nutritional assessment and support and has a robust system and feasibility. Conclusions The individualised nursing plan for patients with pancreatic cancer with postoperative weight-loss control based on the Delphi method is highly scientific and reliable and has positive significance.
