Moving‐image‐sticking phenomenon induced by an outside force in liquid‐crystal displays

Abstract: Abstract— Image deformation caused by an outside force is observed to remain for hours at high gray levels for liquid‐crystal displays (LCDs) in the multi‐domain (MD) vertical‐alignment (VA) mode. This so‐called moving‐image‐sticking phenomenon demonstrated a non‐symmetric luminance profile for the left and right viewing direction for MDVA‐mode LCDs which have original symmetric viewing‐angle characteristics. The generation of a stable reverse‐tilt domain by an outside force was assumed to be the cause of this… Show more

“…Vcom distortions in positions 1,3,5,7,9,11,13 are completely caused by the signal mutation from Vblack to Vwhite and that in positions 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 are inverse, namely from Vwhite to Vblack. Figure 9 shows the Vcom distortion values at 14 positions and its values in positions 1,3,5,7,9,11,13 are in the vicinity of 400 mv, while that in positions 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 are almost 120 mv. All of these prove that the Cdc in Vwhite is greater than that in Vblack, resulting in Vcom distortion caused by the mutation from Vblack to Vwhite is much larger than that from Vwhite to Vblack.…”

“…Image Sticking can be divided into two types: area and line image sticking. Much attention has been given to the area image sticking [1][2][3][4][5], but the cognition of line image sticking still stay at the stage of ion impurities in panel and relative lack of research on it. In order to improve line image sticking, we have investigated some important factors.…”
