“…42 In fact, children and young people with greater motor impairments may need greater environmental adaptations to participate in different activities, and unfortunately, there are a limited number of studies including this population. 43 An advantage of the current study is the sufficient statistical power to detect statistical significance. However, we acknowledge some limitations of this research: (1) the nonrandom selection of participants (ie, convenience recruitment), so that the results must be generalized with caution, as the children who had access to rehabilitation organizations were invited to participate; (2) there was a nonhomogeneous representation regarding the variety of health conditions, since most participants have a diagnosis of CP; (3) our study did not include the assessment of all possible predictors of participation, such as cognitive, communication, and behavior impairments and parental stress-in particular, environmental factors can have significant indirect effects on participation and should be included in future studies involving children and young people with physical disabilities from Brazil; (4) this study only included children and young people from the southeast of Brazil; and (5) we compared our data from the perspective of high-income countries, since data from low-and middleincome countries are scarce.…”

“…There is evidence that the participation of children with severe disabilities is similarly affected by both intrinsic impairments and environmental factors, such as services, support, and attitudes 42. In fact, children and young people with greater motor impairments may need greater environmental adaptations to participate in different activities, and unfortunately, there are a limited number of studies including this population 43…”

“…[10][11][12] To promote leisure-time physical activity in Brazilian children with CP, the Australian Sports Stars intervention was culturally adapted for the Brazilian context. 6 Sports Stars Brazil uses the same structure as the original Sports Stars programme, with the following adaptations: (1) culturally relevant Brazilian sports (soccer, handball, basketball, and athletics) were included to ensure that children would be exposed to the sports that they could have access to in their community; (2) a multidisciplinary team (i.e. physical therapists and physical education professionals) was included because of their specific role in providing modified sports interventions for individuals with disabilities in Brazil.…”

“…Sports‐focused interventions are defined as any modality provided by health professionals that contributes to participation in leisure‐time physical activity (i.e. attendance or involvement in sports and physical recreation) 1 . Children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy (CP) frequently have restrictions that impact their engagement in leisure‐time physical activity and require sports‐focused interventions to support their participation in community sports 1 .…”
