“…The first method was based on the currentvoltage characteristics and the second method was based on the single photoelectron spectra measured for different overvoltages. The second method was previously presented by Grodzicka et al [3].…”

“…In gamma ray spectroscopy applications with scintillators, the small microcell SiPM technology leads to important advantages. First, the lower correlated noise determines a lower Excess Noise Factor (ENF) that leads to better energy resolution performance (the statistical contribution can be modeled as δ st = 2.355 • (ENF/PHE) 1/2 , where PHE is the number of photoelectrons) [3]. Second, the combination of the short recovery time with the high dynamic range significantly improves the linearity of the SiPM response to high-energy gammas, which produce several hundreds of photons per event.…”

“…The gamma spectrometry of tested scintillators was performed with three different types of photodetector, developed by Hamamatsu: R6231-100 PMT, S3590-18 PiN diode and S8664-1010 avalanche photodiode (APD). Also additional measurements with Hamamatsu 6 Â 6 mm 2 MPPC array, used previously in [6,10], were also conducted. Each crystal was coupled to the photodetector with silicone grease in order to improve the light collection.…”

“…The sum of the signals from all of the APD cells gives the SiPM output pulse. In consequence, the number of fired APD cells is generally larger than the number of detected/ incident photons [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. The details of the operating principles, the theoretical model and the analysis of the linearity and pulse height resolution of SiPMs have been extensively studied and can be found elsewhere in the literature [3,4,[9][10][11][12].…”
