Mri and Cardiac Pacemakers: Current Status

Abstract

Purpose. Until recently, an implanted pacemaker was an absolute contraindication to MRI, regardless of the field of study. Patients with pacemakers couldn’t undergo MRI and get the diagnostic information. In recent years, new types of implantable devices that are compatible with MRI have been developed and introduced into clinical practice. This allowed MRI examinations for such patients, including cardiac studies. The review focused on the safety of MRI in patients with implanted MR-compatible pacemakers. The features of procedure, differences from the routine study are considered. The images quality and interpretability both in the implantation zone and in the area of the electrodes are discussed
