Abstract: On MRI, the ovarian SBT has some morphological distinguishing features. The solid papillary architecture with internal branching fibrous stalk is a somewhat more characteristic MRI appearance.

“…4,6,7 Generally the presence of solid component and mural nodules in the lumen and the wall of cystic tumours indicated their malignant potential. 8 In our case, the tumour was diagnosed as complex omental cyst and showed hyperintense signal on T2N1 and some intermediate signal intensity solid component at the periphery. The tumour was abutting and displacing the overlying bowel loops.…”

“…The presence of papillary projections (enhancing solid finger-like projections) is one architectural feature that is common to serous borderline tumors and suggests the diagnosis (152). On T2WI, papillary projections range from small low-to-intermediate SI lesions to larger lesions with characteristic internal branching low SI fibrous stalk and high SI peripheral clumps (Figure 11) (152).…”

“…On T2WI, papillary projections range from small low-to-intermediate SI lesions to larger lesions with characteristic internal branching low SI fibrous stalk and high SI peripheral clumps (Figure 11) (152). Emerging evidence also indicates that addition of DWI and DCE-MRI may facilitate the differentiation between borderline and invasive tumors.…”

“…Serous borderline tumor (SBT) of the micropapillary type (SBT-MP) became one of the major pathological SBT diagnoses in addition to typical SBT, and was also defined as “non-invasive” LGSC. Several imaging reports regarding SBT have been published to date [ 3 5 ]. However, those cases might not be strictly divided into typical SBT and micropapillary type SBT because the previous WHO classification classified SBT into papillary cystic tumors, surface papillary tumors and adenofibromas, and cystadenofibromas primarily on the basis of macroscopic tumor cell proliferation as the major pathological diagnoses and did not include the micropapillary type until 2014.…”
