MRT-Untersuchungen bei axialer und peripherer Spondyloarthritis

Abstract: The diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is based on the modified New York criteria and therefore on defined structural changes in the sacroiliac joint as detected by conventional radiographs. However, x-rays are not able to detect early stages of the disease in which inflammation predominates and irreversible structural changes have not yet taken place. This probably contributes to a substantial time delay until a diagnosis is made. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is able to visualize active and chronic … Show more

“…Herausfordernd gestaltet sich das Monitoring der objektiven entzündlichen Aktivität, da das CRP trotz inflammatorischer Aktivität negativ sein kann. Mittels MRT der Wirbelsäule kann ein Knochenmarködem als Ausdruck der entzündlichen Aktivität objektiviert werden [71].…”

“…MRI can detect early sacroiliitis symptoms such as subchondral bone marrow edema. MRI is a crucial diagnostic tool in managing spondyloarthritis (SpA) as it can detect active and chronic changes before structural changes occur, with the ability to show active lesions and structural changes [ 10 ]. Imaging is crucial in evaluating patients with inflammatory back pain in SpA, as it helps in early detection and appropriate treatment to prevent irreversible changes [ 11 ].…”
