Mu opioid receptor mRNA overexpression predicts poor prognosis among 18 common solid cancers: A pan-cancer analysis

Abstract: BackgroundOpioids are widely used for patients with solid tumors during surgery and for cancer pain relief. We conducted a pan-cancer genomic analysis to investigate the prognostic features of Mu opioid receptor (MOR) mRNA expression across 18 primary solid cancers.MethodsAll the data of cancer with MOR mRNA were retrieved from cBioPortal for Cancer Genomics. Logistic regression was used to determine the associations between MOR mRNA expression and clinicopathological features. Log-rank test and Cox regression… Show more

“…However, it is also important to note that oxytocin is a partial agonist of the μ-opioid receptor [ 124 ] and regulator of the κ-opioid receptor [ 125 ], with the opioidergic system an important determinant of immune regulation across diverse medical conditions [ 126 ], including in the tumor microenvironment [ 127 ]. Overexpression of μ-opioid receptor messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) in 18 common solid cancers is predictive of poor prognosis [ 128 ]. Macrophage μ-opioid receptor activation suppresses macrophage phagocytosis of cancer cells [ 129 ], whilst μ-opioid receptor activation increases microglia reactivity [ 130 ].…”
