Mucoepidermoid tumors of salivary glands

Abstract: Mucoepidermoid tumors of salivary glands are relative rare and it has often been difficult to correlate the patologic features and clinical aspects. The literature recommends long term follow‐up studies. The object of the present study was therefore to follow this recommendation. The clinico‐pathological features of 39 mucoepidermoid tumors are presented. The material was retrieved from the files of the pathological institute, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, during the period 1941–75. All patients, 24 males, 15 fe… Show more

“…They are rare in other locations but have been described in bronchial mucosa (2) and ceruminous glands of the ear. In the skin, however, primary mucoepidermoid carcinomas are exceedingly rare (1,(3)(4)(5). We describe in this report a primary cutaneous mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the right ear.…”

“…Numerous studies have been performed seeking for prognostic factors; [5][6][7][8][9][10][11] cell proliferation, in particular, has been extensively studied, although it does not correlate well with the overall tumour growth rate. 12 Two recent studies of cell proliferation in ACC and mucoepidermoid carcinoma using the MIB-1 antibody against the cell cycle-associated Ki-67 antigen have revealed a correlation with prognosis, 13,14 but estimation of the net tumour growth might give additional useful information.…”
