Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma of the duodenum together with multiple intra-abdominal thromboses and hepatitis C virus infection: a case report

Abstract: Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue MALT lymphoma is a low grade malignancy that arises most commonly from the gastric mucosa. Small intestinal involvement is very rare. The causative relationship between Helicobacter pylori and the gastric MALT lymphoma is a well known issue, but recently there are several data suggesting the role of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in the pathogenesis of lymphoma including MALT lymphoma. Herein we present a rare case of duodenal MALT lymphoma with multiple intra-abdominal thr… Show more

“…Histological investigation confirmed this tumor to be marginal B cell lymphoma 5 . Another interesting case of duodenal MALT lymphoma diagnosed together with multiple intra-abdominal thromboses and hepatitis C virus infection was published in 2009 by Ozkok et al 8 . Our case report is rare not only for the duodenal type of MALT lymphoma, but also for the unique manifestation of this neoplasm.…”

“…It has been shown that its eradication can be either effective [58][59][60] or ineffective [54,[61][62][63]. In MALT lymphoma, the pathogenesis is explained by Helicobacter pylori chronically stimulating the immune system of the GI tract to maintain an extended and prolonged proliferative state, thereby increasing the likelihood of lymphoid transformation [64]. Whether or not H. pylori have any role in MCL pathogenesis is yet to be determined.…”
