“…Several subunit vaccines were tested. They consist mainly of glycoproteins B, C or D expressed in different systems such as transfected cell cultures [204], recombinant baculoviruses [203], recombinant adenoviruses [60,62,163,226], or recombinant tobacco mosaïc virus [157]. The gD based subunit vaccines are the most efficacious at reducing clinical disease and virus excretion when they are formulated with effective adjuvants.…”

“…One of our earlier observations that recombinant bovine adenovirus vaccine vectors had a tropism for PMNs triggered an interest in determining the role of PMNs in the induction of a specific immune response. As bovine adenoviral vectors can stimulate strong immune reactions [16], we tested the hypothesis that bovine PMNs might function as antigen-presenting cells (APCs), thereby providing a link between the innate and adaptive branches of the immune system. As there was a growing body of literature to suggest that PMNs from other species could assume such a role, we began by investigating the expression of MHC class II, a key protein involved in antigen presentation, on bovine PMNs.…”

“…Many vector vaccines have been developed for the poultry industry, based on pox virus, herpesvirus, or adenovirus (80). A BHV1 deletion mutant and bovine adenovirus-3 have also been described as vector and found to induce protective immunity in cattle (75,103). There is some evidence that incorporation of the G protein of BRSV enhances the virulence of a gE-deleted BHV1 vector (85).…”
