“…Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is a plasticizer that is used in a wide range of consumer products, such as food packing, medical devices, and wallpapers. Maternal exposure to DEHP has been shown to affect spermatogenesis in male offspring (Doyle et al, 2013) as well as several other body systems over multiple generations, including the female reproductive system (Brehm et al, 2018), liver (Wen et al, 2020), and anxiety-like behavior (Quinnies et al, 2015). Concerning influences on spermatogenic cells, offspring that are exposed prenatally to DEHP show defects in spermatogenesis, decreases in sperm number, and reduction of sperm motility (Doyle et al, 2013;Prados et al, 2015;Stenz et al, 2017), and F1 sperm demonstrate altered DNA methylation and expression of the genes encoding seminal vesicle secretory protein 2 (Svs2; also known as semenogelin-1); Svs3b; Svs4; and seminal vesicle antigen (Sva), all of which are involved in sperm motility (Stenz et al, 2017).…”
