Multi-attribute Combinatorial Marketplaces for Cloud Resource Trading

Abstract: Abstract-Cloud Computing represents a new era where computing is offered as a service rather than as a physical product. The next level of flexibility will be achieved when Cloud Computing services can be automatically traded. This paper focuses on providing the foundation for simple and flexible Cloud resource trading. This is achieved by proposing vocabularies for the trading of Cloud resources and algorithms for a Cloud marketplace. A multi-attribute combinatorial marketplace is proposed as a solution for s… Show more

“…[18] and [19] give a helpful insight about the framework for Cloud auction market. A framework of multi-attribute combinatorial auction market in Cloud computing is proposed in [18] in which it is assumed that the attributes related to the Cloud resources can be quantified to some integer values resulting in final pricing of the resources. Providers may offer the resources individually or in form of a bundle along with the attributes of the resources.…”

“…Providers may offer the resources individually or in form of a bundle along with the attributes of the resources. The work in [18] discusses some matching algorithms that can be used to find a best match of provider and customer. Similar to [18], [19] also proposes a Cloud market framework which allocates the resources based on a double auction.…”

“…The problem is non-trivial, involving multi-attribute consumer and provider bundles. These algorithms have been used to support combinatorial exchange problems in Cluster Computing [26], Grid Computing [25]and Cloud Computing [28] applications.…”

“…The rapid increase in available large-scale resources has increased the need for marketplaces to allow the trading of these resources. There is also the necessity for market mechanisms to support these marketplaces [26]. There are attempts to meet the market for on-demand and resource-flexible resources, most notably with Amazon spot-instances [27]; however, this is relatively isolated and is yet to spread into the wider cloud community. The application of market mechanisms to large-scale computing infrastructures requires the consideration of economic and domain-specific requirements.…”
