Sustainable material selection is a crucial problem given the new demands of society and novel production strategies that consider the concepts of sustainability. Multi-criteria decision-making methods have been extensively used to help decision-makers select alternatives in different fields of knowledge. Nonetheless, these methods have been criticized due to the rank reversal problem, where the independence of the irrelevant alternative principle is violated after the initial decision problem is changed. Over the course of this study, we observed that the solutions that are proposed for this problem, in the context of sustainable material selection, are insufficient. Thus, we present a new material selection approach that is based on the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method, which is immune to rank reversal. We also demonstrate the causes of rank reversal in the TOPSIS method, how the R-TOPSIS method was designed to solve them, and how it can be applied to sustainable material selection.

Plastic waste is a major concern for marine environment care, and many researchers and projects face the problem from different points of view. The European CircularSeas project aims to encourage the development of greener maritime industries through the combination of principles of Circular Economy, plastic recycling and 3D printing. However, while 3D printing has shown its benefits for conventional industry environments, the first issue discussed in this paper is whether 3D printing technology can also bring benefits to the maritime-port sector, where parts manufacturing, new prototyping trends and even product customization have not traditionally been major business issues. A secondary issue is how 3D printing and this specific user scenario could accommodate recycled plastic in a Circular Economy strategy in a feasible way. In an attempt to address both of these issues, the paper reviews some particularities of 3D printing open technologies and proposes a new integrated and user-oriented 3D printing framework, independent of hardware and adaptable to non-standard recycled plastic raw material from marine waste.

PT PAL Indonesia (PERSERO) is among the prominent shipyard companies in Indonesia that currently employs a simplistic supplier selection weighting system, prioritizing low prices and material specification conformity. This approach often leads to subjective assessments, making it challenging for the company to identify suitable suppliers from a large pool. Therefore, this study proposed a methodology to enhance supplier selection by incorporating additional criteria based on Dickson's criteria and company policies. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Additive Ratio Assessment (ARAS) methods were utilized for this purpose. The findings indicate that PT Krakatau Steel (A1) emerges as the top-ranked supplier with a Ki value of 0.19, followed by PT Diansakti Sejahtera (A5) in second place with a Ki value of 0.157, and PT Gunawan Dianjaya Steel (A3) in third place with a Ki value of 0.152. PT Jastindo Raya (A4) secures the fourth position with a Ki value of 0.151, while PT Gunung Raja Paksi (A2) takes the fifth and final spot with a Ki value of 0.15. This research helps the company effectively select the best suppliers, particularly in the procurement sector, by employing the AHP-ARAS method and considering Dickson's criteria, thereby addressing existing gaps the company encounters.
