Multi-Criteria Optimization of Turning of Martensitic Stainless Steel for Sustainability

Abstract: A modern production strategy faces the increasing challenges of practicing green production without sacrificing machining performance. Thus, this paper compares emulsion cooling, minimum quantity lubrication without and with a Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube when turning martensitic stainless steel X20Cr13. Experimental tests were organized corresponding to Taguchi orthogonal array L 27 (3 4 ). The Taguchi based entropy weighted grey relational analysis was exploited to acquire the optimum combination of cutting spe… Show more

“…The findings indicated the V was found to be the most effective factor, followed by the f, D, and noise radius. Sterpin Valic et al indicated that the MQL and Ranque-Hilsch vortex were effective approaches to minimize the SR and maximize the MRR for the turning X20Cr13 steel [30]. However, the limitations of the aforementioned works are expressed as:…”

“…Moreover, the Taguchi method is a systematic and efficient method for conducting experiments to determine the optimal values [18,32,34,35]. Using orthogonal arrays, the Taguchi method searches in the parameter space with a small number of experiments [36,37].…”

“…Until now, no analytical or empirical limit load solutions were done for through-wall cracks for specimens such as PRS, especially where it concerns combined bending and shear loads. Limit load solutions based on multi-parametric analysis, as it was parametrically perform in [16]. However, solutions for limit load can be applied in the structural integrity assessment of different components made as pipes or hollow cylinders or components, where a longitudinal crack can occur.…”
