“…2-Ethylhexane-1,3-diol, butane-2,3-diol, and 2-methylpentane-2,4-diol have been reported already in the 1950s and many more have been used in recent years, such as octane-1,8-diol, pentane-1,5-diol, naphthalene-2,3-diol or even poly(methylene glycol). 109,[111][112][113][114] One major advantage of these glycolated precursors is their outstanding stability not only in alcohol but also in water and in a humid atmosphere. Because of this high stability, only very few groups report the synthesis of titania from these precursors by hydrolysis and condensation reactions, but rather focus on the thermolysis at higher temperatures.…”

“…The first weight loss (17‐42 %) in the temperature range 30 °C to 214 °C is attributed to the removal of physisorbed water and ethylene glycol molecules, water of hydration, ethylene glycol molecules bound to the lattice and partially deprotonated ethylene glycol moieties ,. The second weight loss (11‐18 %) in the temperature range 198 °C to 320 °C is due the decomposition of acetate groups ,. The third weight loss (11‐14 %) in the temperature range 281 to 390 °C is due to the decomposition of completely deprotonated ethylene glycol moieties present in the Zn‐Ti glycolates with the formation of ZnTiO 3 and/or Zn 2 TiO 4 ,.…”

“…Niu et al have reported the synthesis of lanthanum oxide trapezohedrons at 150 °C . Yu et al have synthesized multi‐faceted TiO 2 structures at room temperature . Uchaker et al have reported the synthesis of V 2 O 5 hollow microspheres at 180 °C .…”

“…Nowadays, metal-glycolate solids are considered for different purposes. They are mostly prepared and investigated as solid intermediates in the preparation of chemically, structurally and microstructurally controlled oxide particles (Takase et al, 2017;Das et al, 2009;Ksapabutr et al, 2004;Pan et al, 2015;Day et al, 1996;Ng et al, 2008;Yu et al, 2007Baklanova et al, 2014 or metal (Chakroune et al, 2005;Abdallah et al, 2015;Takahashi et al, 2016;Anžlovar et al, 2008), but they are also studied as intrinsic functional materials, taking advantage of the versatility of their crystalline structure, their lightness and, of course, the variety of their own physico-chemical properties. Typically, some of them, owing to the magnetic properties of their constitutive metal cations, exhibit interesting magnetocaloric properties at low temperature making them valuable for cryogenic magneto-refrigeration applications (Abdallah et al, 2019;Chen et al, 2014).…”
