The fi rst laser TV named 'LaserVue', which has three primary colored lasers, has been newly developed. It provides an ultra wide color gamut with twice the range of colors as a conventional LCD-TV, a 65-inch wide screen with only 269 mm thickness, and a low power consumption of 135 W. A LD based extra-cavity SHG laser and a solid state laser based intra-cavity SHG laser has been developed, and the later is applied to the laser TV. The three essential planar-waveguide devices, which are suited to massproduction with wafer processing, of a pump LD, a solid state laser and a SHG are developed for the laser. To apply proximity coupling to these devices, we have miniaturized laser module with a volume as small as 10 cm 3 . This green laser provides an output power of 10 W with an electrical effi ciency of as high as 20 %. For practical use, a low temperature dependence of output power and a low temporal coherence of output light are also achieved.
