Laser communication, with its bandwidth advantage, has become an indispensable and effective means in future high-speed communication, and has also become a research hotspot internationally in recent years. The future development of laser communication will move towards high-speed, miniaturization, integration, networking, and other directions, and achieving small-scale integration of communication terminals is of great significance in practical applications. Chirp managed lasers (CML) combine the advantages of direct modulation lasers and external modulators, with a simple structure and easy integration. They can achieve high-speed and low bit error rate signal transmission, thus receiving widespread attention. This article will introduce the device structure and working principle of chirp managed lasers, and study the main applications and research progress of this laser at home and abroad. Finally, a summary and outlook on the future development trend of chirp managed lasers are presented.
