Multi-objective calibration of the double-ellipsoid heat source model for GMAW process simulation

Abstract: The scope of application of simulation models in welding is limited by the accuracy of their output results. This paper presents a calibration procedure for a three-dimensional quasi-stationary model of heat transfer for gas metal arc welding. The double-ellipsoid heat source used in this model has five input parameters whose value cannot be specified accurately. To estimate these values, we employed a multi-objective calibration procedure with two objective functions using the paretosearch o… Show more

“…The heat source equations are presented in Equations 29, 30, and 31 [58]: where 𝑞𝑞 𝑒𝑒 and 𝑞𝑞 𝑟𝑟 are the front and rear of the heat flux at a point (𝑥𝑥, 𝑦𝑦, 𝑧𝑧) in the ellipsoid, respectively; 𝑎𝑎, 𝑏𝑏, and 𝑐𝑐 are the three semi-axes of ellipsoid; 𝑓𝑓 𝑒𝑒 and 𝑓𝑓 𝑟𝑟 are the heat distribution between the front and rear ellipsoid, respectively, the sum of which is equal to 2; 𝑄𝑄 is the total heat of welding; 𝑈𝑈 is voltage; 𝐼𝐼 is current; and 𝜂𝜂 is arc efficiency.…”

“…Aslam and Sahoo 32 investigated a moving HSM for one objective deposited slight strengthen repair drip. For gas metal arc welding, Bjeli et al 33 developed calibration of a three-dimensional quasi-stationary heat transfer prototype. The five input parameters of the double-ellipsoid heat source employed in this model cannot be precisely determined.…”
