Multi-resource allocation in stochastic project scheduling

Abstract: We propose a resource allocation model for project scheduling. Our model accommodates multiple resources and decision-dependent activity durations inspired by microeconomic theory. First, we elaborate a deterministic problem formulation. In a second stage, we enhance this model to account for uncertain problem parameters. Assuming that the first and second moments of these parameters are known, the stochastic model minimises an approximation of the value-at-risk of the project makespan. As a salient feature, o… Show more

“…In non-critical activity (1,1), (2,3), (3,3) and (3,5), production process (3,3) must be performed directly after (3,1) without postponing according to the process requirement. Thus, adjustment of production process (1,1), (2,3) and (3,3) is discussed here.…”

“…An active resource allocation method that the level of actual resource mobilization can be changed by the construction period is demonstrated in [2]. A resource allocation model for project scheduling is proposed in [3]. To solve resource allocation project scheduling problem and resource leveling problem at the same time, two new metaheuristic algorithms are utilized in [4].…”

“…The work content of a task can be understood as a measure of the effort (e.g., manhours) required for its completion (Wiesemann et al 2012). This convention leads to an endogenization of the task durations, which not only depend on their exogenous work contents but also on the resource allocation chosen by the follower.…”

“…Instead, we eliminate the inner minimisation in RT N by enumerating the task paths of the network. A solution scheme based on path enumeration has recently been proposed in project scheduling under a probabilistic uncertainty model [34]. In this section, we present a path-wise reformulation of RT N and argue that it is unsuited for direct solution.…”
