Multiband bandpass filters with suppressed harmonics using a novel defected ground structure

Abstract: A novel defected ground structure, with a predominantly magnetic coupling, is designed, fabricated, and used to suppress the out‐of‐band harmonics of a class of multiband filter, characterized by very abrupt spurious response. A one‐pole lowpass filter is realized solely by making slots on the ground plane and keeping the original filter structure unchanged. The proposed structure has very minor effect on the performance of the original multiband filter, for example, on fractional bandwidths or level of S11. M… Show more

“…Other researchers have used topologies based on DGS technique. Boutejdar et al, Ren, and Hejazi and Ali proposed filters using vertical and horizontal cascaded DGS-resonators [11][12][13] and thin slots [14,15]. The disadvantages in such researches are the complicated DGS shapes, undesired coupling between the DGS resonators and large size of the proposed filter structures.…”

“…The narrow and wide etched regions on the bottom ground plane can enhance effective inductance and capacitance, respectively. DGS resonators have also been used for various microwave applications, such as low‐pass filters, band‐pass filters, band‐stop filters, antennas, and sensors . Various configurations and devices have been proposed to provide multifunctionality or tunable DGS based microwave circuits.…”

“…Compact size, low insertion loss, high attenuation level in the stopband, and sharp roll‐off are the noticeable factors of BPFs designing . Over the last few years, many resonators and filter configurations have been introduced to design high performance BPFs . For example, using ring resonators, different bandpass filters have been designed in Refs.…”
