Multicomponent pattern and biological activities of sevenAsphodelinetaxa: potential sources of natural-functional ingredients for bioactive formulations

Abstract: The current study was carried out to evaluate multicomponent pattern, biological and enzymatic activities of seven Asphodeline taxa root extracts as useful ingredients, due to the fact that these plants are commonly used as traditional food supplements in Turkish regions. The extracts were characterized for free anthraquinones and phenolics to obtain a specific chemical fingerprint useful for quality control. These analyzes were coupled to biological and enzymatic activities in order to obtain comprehensive in… Show more

“…The gradient elution was achieved by a solution of water‐acetonitrile (93:7 ratio, with 3% of acetic acid) as initial conditions. The complete separation was achieved in 60 min by means of a validated method (Locatelli et al , ) and herein applied after evaluation of analytical performances and the absence of matrix interferences specifically for the harpagoside quantification.…”

“…This fact has been growing day by day and the last century has witnessed a growing number of herbal consumers and could be considered as "herbal products era" against synthetics. From this point, global awareness on natural products have resulted in a plethora of investigations focused towards the discovery of novel and effective compounds from plants [1,2]. One famous example is the discovery of the antimalarial drugs, Artemisinin isolated from the traditionally used medicinal plant, Artemisia annua, which was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine [3].…”

“…After solubilization, the samples were centrifuged at 12,000× g and filtered through a micro-filter before HPLC injection. Standard phenolic compounds were applied for identifying and quantifying individual phenolic components in the samples as µg/g dry extract [21,22].…”
