Multicriteria Decision-Making Methods in Selecting Seismic Upgrading Strategy of High-Rise RC Wall Buildings

Abstract: Reinforced concrete (RC) structural walls are widely used in high-rise structures in earthquakeprone areas. Damaged by the earthquakes in the past decades, these buildings need retrofitting in order to increase the resilience of buildings with concrete shear walls. This study aimed to investigate the retrofitting of high-rise RC wall buildings using energy dissipation devices. To this end, a total of 4 buildings with 15, 20, 25, and 30 stories equipped with concrete shear walls as their lateral load-resisting … Show more

“…The developed approach is based on the SECA (Simultaneous Evaluation of Criteria and Alternatives) method [17], fuzzy sets, α-cut intervals and SMART (Simple Multi-Attribute Rating Technique) [18]. SECA is an efficient and relatively new MCDM method that has been applied to several real-world evaluation problems in different fields of study including battery electric vehicles [19], sustainable manufacturing [20], system resilience analysis [21], hybrid machining processes [22], renewable energy [23], fuel-switching [24], high-rise wall buildings [25], cities smartness [26] and dynamic resource allocation [27]. The approach proposed in this paper enables us to evaluate alternatives and criteria of an MCDM problem simultaneously.…”

“…Other technologies that could be categorised as passive power dissipation devices include tuned weight and adjustable liquid absorbers, both of which are frequently used for wind vibration analysis, recentering valves, and phase transition valves. [6][7][8][9] Semiactive dampers, which passively resist relative movement between their endpoints but have adjustable mechanical properties, are a form of controllable gateway node. Such dampers include variable-orifice absorbers, magneto-rheological dampers, and magneto-rheological dampers.…”

“…Machine learning (ML) methodologies and computing power advancements facilitate not only the handling of big data within reasonable time restrictions, but also the automatic discovery of underlying patterns of the data without requiring human subjective judgments [2,3]. The decision-making process may become more reliable and efficient using ML models [4]. The application of ML algorithms in civil engineering involves a wide range of disciplines [5][6][7], including structural health monitoring [8,9], geotechnical engineering [7], and structural and earthquake engineering [10][11][12].…”
