Multidetector CT enterography of focal small bowel lesions: a radiological–pathological correlation

Abstract: Focal small bowel lesions present a diagnostic challenge for both the radiologist and gastroenterologist. Both the detection and characterization of small bowel masses have greatly improved with the advent of multidetector CT enterography (MD-CTE). As such, MD-CTE is increasingly utilized in the workup of occult gastrointestinal bleeding. In this article, we review the spectrum of focal small bowel masses with pathologic correlation. Adenocarcinoma, the most common primary small bowel malignancy, presents as a… Show more

“…Un compromiso generalizado o multifocal intestinal, la ausencia de obstrucción a pesar de gran volumen tumoral y la ausencia de hipervascularización, son señales que apuntan hacia un linfoma. En el colon, particularmente en el ciego, y el recto, las lesiones pueden ser masa polipoide, infiltración circunferencial, masa ulcerada, haustras engrosadas o nódulos mucosos 13,14 .…”

“…Circumferential irregular wall thickening of the duodenum is a typical imaging appearance of duodenal or ampullary adenocarcinoma (Fig 9). Although uncommon, jejunal polyps are identified as enhancing sessile nodules at CT enterography or MR enterography (37). At doublecontrast barium enema study, multiple polyps measuring from pinhead size up to 1.5 cm and giving a serrated contour to the colonic wall are commonly seen (38).…”
