Multifaceted Roles of Caveolin-1 in Lung Cancer: A New Investigation Focused on Tumor Occurrence, Development and Therapy

Abstract: Lung cancer is one of the most common and malignant cancers with extremely high morbidity and mortality in both males and females. Although traditional lung cancer treatments are fast progressing, there are still limitations. Caveolin-1 (Cav-1), a main component of caveolae, participates in multiple cellular events such as immune responses, endocytosis, membrane trafficking, cellular signaling and cancer progression. It has been found tightly associated with lung cancer cell proliferation, migration, apoptosis… Show more

“…The top five proteins predicted by two models, NKX2-1, CAV1, CDH3, FN1 and YBX1, were exactly the same. The relationship between the expression of these five proteins and the prognosis of the cancer patients was almost consistent with that described in previous reports [ 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 ]. CAV-1 and YBX-1 are generally negative predictors of NSCLC outcomes [ 24 , 25 ].…”

CAV-1 and YBX-1 are generally negative predictors of NSCLC outcomes [ 24 , 25 ]. FN1 seems to be associated with cisplatin resistance and over-expression of CDH3 correlates to a poor prognosis in carcinomas of the breast, prostate, ovary, colon and stomach [ 29 , 30 ].…”

“…Caveolin-1 has been shown as a lipid transporter in a variety of cell types [ 35 , 36 , 37 ]. Changes in the expression of this protein have been related to lung cancer prognosis [ 38 ], although some studies suggest that this relationship may be context-dependent [ 39 ]. This protein may constitute the entry point for Macrocybin into the cell and the fact that its expression is affected in tumor cells but not in nontumor cells may partially explain the preferential toxicity of the triglyceride for cancer cells.…”

“…Lung cancer is one of the most common malignant cancer types in both males and females [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. It causes very high rates of morbidity and mortality in both sexes and is ranked as the most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States and other countries [ 4 ].…”
