Multifunctional epoxy composites modified with a graphene nanoplatelet/carbon nanotube hybrid

Abstract: Epoxies are a class of thermoset polymers which find use in high performance applications. However, epoxies are inherently brittle and are poor conductors of electricity, which limits their ability to be employed in functional applications. Carbon nanomaterials have attracted considerable attention as filler materials, due to their combination of outstanding properties. In the present work, an epoxy polymer was modified with a hybrid nanofiller, consisting of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) and carbon nanotubes … Show more

“…It is interesting to evaluate this hybrid with a thickness of some nanometers. Some researchers have reported nanocomposites with improved properties using graphene nanoplatelets not only of a few layers, but several nanometers of thickness 43,44 . The thermo‐mechanical response of reinforced specimens was analyzed through DMA due to its sensitivity to relaxation processes and transition of the epoxy matrix.…”

“…Kopsidas and Olowojoba [ 155 ] modified an EP using a hybrid nanofiller, consisting of GNPs and CNTs with a mass ratio of 9:1 using a three‐roll milling technique. The incorporation of 1 wt.% hybrid nanofiller led to an enhancement of approximately 180% in the fracture energy of EP.…”
