Multifunctional Zn(ii)/Cd(ii) metal complexes for tunable luminescence properties and highly efficient dye-sensitized solar cells

Abstract: Complexes Zn1 and Cd1 exhibit tunable luminescence properties and they can serve as co-sensitizers to enhance the power-conversion efficiency.

“…EIS data revealed that the electron lifetime for the co-sensitized DSC was longer (16.42 ms) than for the N719 cell (8.59 ms). 302 Interestingly, use of the zinc( ii ) complex of ligand [106] 2− ( Scheme 30 ) as a co-sensitizer with N791 leads to an increase in J SC but a decrease in V OC . Again, the characterized complex was a coordination polymer, [Zn 3 (106) 2 (OH) 2 (OH 2 ) 6 ] n , 303 and we note that dissolution in EtOH for the dye-bath and photoanode assembly will result in disassembly of the polymer.…”

“…The dark current measurement reveals information regarding the extent of the back electron transfer and therefore dark current of the DSSC based on different photoanodes Cd( 1 ‐ 4 )/N719 and N719 dyes were also measured and shown in Figure (ii). The dark current and V oc for individual complexes were found to be different than individual co‐sensitizers and N719 dye . For the co‐sensitized cells the dark current follows the order Cd 1 /N719 < Cd 4 /N719 < Cd 2 /N19 < Cd 3 /N719 < N719 whereas the reverse was observed for V oc , i. e. Cd 1 /N719 > Cd 4 /N719> Cd 2 /N719 > Cd 3 /N719 > N719.…”

“…For comparison, the color coordinates of various dyes commonly used in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and MAPbI x Br 3− x perovskite films are also displayed. The perovskite thin films were fabricated in this study, and the data for the dyes with the DSSCs were referenced from other publications 16,75,76 . The dyes are green or blue-tinted, the perovskite films are reddish brown to yellowish (Fig.…”
