Multilayered Hemorrhage Secondary to Retinal Arterial Macroaneurysm Rupture: A Case Report and Review of Literature

Abstract: Retinal arterial macroaneurysms represent an acquired vascular irregularity that is primarily observed in the elderly population. The high variability surrounding the clinical presentation of this condition makes the initial diagnosis challenging. Employing several diagnostic techniques including fundus fluorescence angiography, optical coherence tomography, and optical coherence tomography angiography ensures that any hemorrhages secondary to macroaneurysms rupture are identified promptly. This is crucial for… Show more

“…For example, a recent case report of a hemorrhagic RAM displayed an OCT image of a hemorrhagic BALAD, but the bacillary detachment was not identified or recognized as such. 10 These cases expand the scope of clinical pathology associated with BALAD, may offer some degree of visual prognostication for patients with hemorrhagic RAMs, and further supports the impressive regenerative capabilities of photoreceptor cells. Further studies will be needed to compare whether patients with hemorrhagic RAMs have better visual outcomes if they have BALAD features on OCT, and if the presence of BALAD can reliably predict more favorable outcomes.…”
