Multimode Equivalent Network Representations

Abstract

The objective of this article is to describe the formulation of multimode equivalent network representations of waveguide junctions. Both planar and arbitrary junctions are discussed, thereby covering essentially all possible cases of engineering interest for microwave and millimeter‐wave applications. The theory presented in this article effectively transforms complex field problems into linear algebraic problems of simple solution. The theory described is rigorous and computationally very efficient and can therefore be used as a very solid theoretical frame for the development of advanced full‐wave electromagnetic simulation computer programs. In addition to theory, a number of applications are also demonstrated showing very good agreement between measured and simulated performances, thereby fully validating the theory presented.
