Multiobjective optimization of a gas pipeline network: an ant colony approach

Abstract: Optimization problems in gas pipeline transportation involve numerous variables, multiple objectives and many complex linear-nonlinear equality and inequality constraints. The optimization techniques used for solving multiobjective gas transportation problems are essentially different as those for single-objective optimization. Discovering the Pareto front and non-dominated set of solutions for the nonlinear multiobjective pipeline problem obliges noteworthy registering exertion. In the present paper, for solv… Show more

“…In numerous papers, for example [5][6][7][8], well-known simplified empirical Darcy formulas that describe isothermal motion of fluids and gases are used in hydraulic calculation. Thus, papers [7][8] contain the examples of using the Darcy formula for gases, and papers [5,6] -for mixtures of gases and fluids.…”

Thus, papers [7][8] contain the examples of using the Darcy formula for gases, and papers [5,6] -for mixtures of gases and fluids. However, when using these dependences in non-isothermal transportation systems, this leads to significant errors in the calculation of pressure losses and overrating design diameters of pipe flow areas [9].…”

“…Multi-objective optimization methods for the transportation of gas differ fundamentally from individual target improvement methods. On this basis, the technique of improving the ant colony of multipurpose was developed to improve the transportation of gas in pipelines by reducing the consumption of the compressor fuel as well as increasing the production to maximum [16]. The design of the gas pipeline networks was complex where it consisted of pipes and element controls such as pumps and valves.…”

“…In the paper by [9], a multi-objective ant colony optimization technique for pipeline optimization has been developed to solve the multi-objective gas pipeline transportation problem. The multi-objective problem considered is about minimizing fuel consumption in the compressors and maximizing the throughput.…”
