Multiple Approaches of Solving Allocation Problems on Postal Transportation Network in Conditions of Large Countries

Abstract: The article deals with the optimizing the postal transportation network with two different optimizing methods. The research adopted in this article uses allocation models within graph theory to obtain results for addressed optimization problem. The article presents and compares two types of these models: p-median and uncapacitated fixed charge facility location model. The aim of p-median model is to find the location of P facilities in network, serving all demands in a way ensuring the average transport cost t… Show more

“…In the event of supplying the network of pick-up system, it is not assumed that vehicles returns to the service depot, which means that, in the calculations, the constant "2" representing return journeys is omitted [20]. It will be either replaced by constant "1" or can be completely omitted from the formula.…”

“…Companies no longer purchase tens of pallets of material or goods but rather smaller quantities of more specific materials from a wider range of suppliers, which increases the demand for single-piece shipments. Singlepiece shipments are mostly offered by various pick-up systems [20]. Pick-up system refers to a kind of transport where single-piece shipments are consolidated into one common transportation unit, thus sharing the transportation cost.…”

“…Network in Conditions of Large Countries. This research compares two models for optimizing a postal transportation network: the p-median model and uncapacitated fixedcharge facility location model (30). The p-median model minimizes weighted travel costs from demand points to facilities.…”

“…Nozick and Turnquist [24] incorporated both fixed-charge model and p-median model for coordinating cost expense and customer responsiveness in order to determine the locations of distribution centers. P-median and un-capacitated fixed charge facility location model were compared by Madleňák et al [25] for minimizing the average transport cost and overall cost in a postal service network. Analogously, with the aim of minimizing the sum of the setup cost and transportation cost, Dantrakul et al [26] developed a greedy algorithm with pmedian and p-centre models.…”
