Multiple clustered dermatofibroma: case report and review of the literature

Abstract: The presence of multiple dermatofibromas is rare and is defined as more than 15 lesions. Multiple clustered dermatofibroma (MCDF) is a distinct entity with only 12 reported cases in the literature. MCDF occurs in healthy individuals of both sexes in the first to third decades on the lower half of the body and portends an excellent prognosis. On histology, MCDF is consistent with benign dermatofibromas. We report a 31-year-old healthy Hispanic woman with a 14-year history of slowly progressive MCDF located on h… Show more

“…3,[13][14][15][16] Cases of DFSP have also been described involving the vulva. 25 DF can infiltrate the subcutaneous fat but does so less commonly and with a less-prominent pattern than is typical of DFSP. DFSP may be clinically confused with neurofibroma, leiomyoma, epidermal cyst, malignant melanoma, morpheaform basal cell carcinoma, keloid, desmoid tumor, Kaposi's sarcoma, fibrosarcoma, dermatofibroma, nodular fasciitis, and sarcoidosis.…”

“…This variant of MCDF which is neither congenital nor eruptive is extraordinarily rare, with only 13 cases reported. The clinical characteristics of this case shows all the features common to all cases of this variant form of DF previously reported, these being, occurrence in healthy individual in the second decade, slowly progressive evolution increasing over many years [9,10] and DF typical lesions. The location on the left buttock is also quite typical, and 2 biopsies on different places were consistent with dermatofibroma [11,12] .…”

“…5 Multipl kümelenmiş dermatofibrom tek bir anatomik bölgede gruplaşmış dermatofibrom lezyonlarını tanımlamakta olup, bu tanı ile sınırlı sayıda olgu bildirilmiştir. 6,7 Uzun yıllar süren seyir sonunda bazı olgularda kendi kendine gerileme görülebilmektedir. 3 Soliter ve az sayıdaki dermatofibromlar sistemik hastalık açısından önem taşımaz.…”
