Multiple Imputation to Salvage Partial Respondents

Abstract: Background:Missing responses are common when Asian patients complete the Forgotten Joint Score-12 (FJS-12), which is widely used to evaluate total hip arthroplasty (THA). We aimed to provide orthopaedic researchers with a solution for handling missing values in such patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).Methods:Patients who had undergone primary THA between 1998 and 2016 (n = 1,021) were investigated in 2020. The FJS-12 and 9 other PROMs, including questions related to Asian lifestyle activities, were admi… Show more

“…The Forgotten Joint Score (FJS)-12 is a 12-item questionnaire for the assessment of joint awareness in daily life after arthroplasty [31][32][33]. The answers to 12 items concerning the frequency of joint awareness (never, 0 point; almost never, 1 point; seldom, 2 points; sometimes, 3 points; mostly, 4 points) are summed and converted into a 100-point scale, with higher scores indicating better outcomes.…”

“…Statistical analyses were performed using R software (The R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria), with statistical signi cance set at a p-value of < .05. As the data were not completely missing at random, multiple imputation on the mice 3.13.0 package was applied with predictive mean matching [32,36]. A total of 100 imputed datasets were generated, and all missing values of other variables were imputed.…”

“…The prevention of NSAID-induced ulcers can be established from the initial prescription of NSAIDs, such as in an orthopaedic outpatient clinic; however, several of these prescriptions fail to adhere to the guidelines for preventing ulcers [22]. In our study, we focused on new users of NSAIDs with low back pain or joint pain caused by osteoarthritis, which are typical orthopaedic diseases [23][24][25][26], to evaluate the effectiveness of co-prescription of rebamipide in preventing NSAID-induced ulcers. Our investigation aimed to answer the question, "Does rebamipide contribute to preventing upper gastrointestinal bleeding in new users of NSAIDs for osteoarthritis or low back pain and who are at low risk of NSAID-induced ulcers?"…”
