Multiple Intelligences and Perceptual Learning Style Preferences of Education and Engineering Students

Abstract: Effective learning varies based on the students' different learning styles and intelligence across the curriculum. This research determines the learning styles and multiple intelligences of 250 second-year education students and 200 engineering students. It employed a stratified sampling technique in the data collection process. It reveals that individual, group, auditory, and visual learning are among engineering students' most common learning styles, while auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning were the … Show more

“…There are some features concerning learning style (e.g., learning concentration time, observation, discussion, tasks, online communication, browsing resources, homework completion, academic performance, etc.). The best way to provide learning to learners was to determine learning styles through indicators, for example, personality, perception, ability, and intelligence (Nguyen et al, 2022); (Pocaan, 2022); (Pardamean et al, 2022). Among the cardinal internal factors that affect students' learning performance include age, gender, heredity, cognitive intelligence, and individual learning facilities (Fauziyah et al, 2022).…”

“…Research that prioritizes qualitative observation in its evaluation methods and assumes that "intelligences" are synonymous with "preferences" tends to yield more positive results. However, these findings cannot be generalized to the entire population [25]. Studies investigating the implementation of MI theory in evaluating students' advancement through a curriculum grounded in MI theory have produced findings that raise questions regarding the durability of this theory [26].…”

“…Every individual has a unique approach to learning, shaped by their experiences, environment, and personal inclinations (Pocaan 2022). However, conventional educational frameworks often lean toward a one-size-fits-all methodology (Tasadduq et al 2021).…”

“…However, conventional educational frameworks often lean toward a one-size-fits-all methodology (Tasadduq et al 2021). This standardized approach can clash with the diverse learning styles of those accustomed to more experiential or hands-on learning (Pocaan 2022). A student who, for example, has learned the nuances of a trade by helping at a family-owned store might find the passive nature of lecture-based learning less engaging.…”
