Multiple primary malignant neoplasms in breast cancer patients in Israel

Abstract: The data of an epidemiologic study of multiple primary malignant neoplasms in breast cancer patients in Israel are presented. During the 18‐year period of the study 12,302 cases of breast carcinoma were diagnosed, and, of these, 984 patients (8%) had multiple primary malignant tumors. “…This has been confirmed by our own analysis, where the SIRs for patients with a second primary malignancy following thyroid cancer increased and showed approximately 21 % increased risk compared to the general population. Specifically, the risks of adrenal, bone and joints, breast, brain and CNS, colon and colorectal, kidney, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, multiple myeloma, leukaemia, prostate, salivary gland, soft tissue sarcoma and stomach were increased [2,9,14,47,48].
