Multiple trigger initiated handover execution in WiMAX networks

Abstract: Handover in mobile networks considers Quality of Service (QoS) parameters such as signal strength, signal to interference noise ratio (SINR), bit error rate (BER) etc. for its initiation. Handover considering signal strength is a basic scheme in mobile networks. Considering only signal strength is not ideal for WiMAX networks, wh ich has stringent QoS requirements.Signal strength along with hysteresis and threshold serves as an accurate handover mechanism in WiMAX network. But it is necessary that selected tar… Show more

“…Most of the schemes used SINR with RSS for selecting a network for the handover. A scheme based on the similar characteristics is presented in the work of Winston and Shaji 66 . This scheme first checks a threshold that is based on the RSS.…”

“…[5] Proposes hierarchical design concept of a preamble for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based mobile mesh networks to reduce handoff overhead. In [6] a multiple trigger initiated handoff execution is proposed which considers signal strength along with hysteresis and threshold, free capacity estimation and dependence on mobile velocity during handoff process. The two fast handoff mechanisms, fast base station switching and macro diversity handoff, operate with diversity set containing base station list.…”
