Multiple Unit Pellet System (Mups) Based Fast Disintegrating Delayed-Release Tablets for Pantoprazole Delivery

Abstract: Objective: The rationale for the study was to develop multiple unit pellet system (MUPS) of delayed release pantoprazole with desired physical properties and unaltered drug release profile from pellets even after compression into a fast disintegrating tablet. Methods:In the presented study, delayed release pellets of pantoprazole were developed by two methods, i.e. extrusion-spheronization and drug layering techniques, coated using enteric polymer and subsequently compressed in to tablet. In drug layering tech… Show more

“…Finally, the pellets were coated through fluidized bed coating technology as described by PateL SA et al with some modifications [31]. The coating polymer suspension was prepared by adding16 g triethyl citrate (as plasticizer) and 530 g Kollicoat SR 30 D to 430 g purified water with stirring for 40 min.…”

“…Then, the wet granulation mixture was extruded, and the extrudates were then immediately spheronized to yield the spherical pellets. The pellets were dried in a hot-air oven at 40°C for 10-12 h. The dried pellets were then filled and stored in screw-capped, high-density polyethylene bottles [7].…”
