On the other hand, in some societies in Africa, the status of wife is enhanced, if the husband brings a second wife because not only she gets designated as the senior wife but has the authority and power to delegate drudgerous household chores such as fetching water and fuel wood to the second wife (Campbell et al, 2005; Gary, 1982; Mani Babu, 2013). For instance, women in Bangladesh dread the possibility of their husband getting a second wife, since it means transferring affection and economic support to her, but in Ivory Coast in Africa, women tolerate or even look forward to the prospect of second wife, since it permits division of labour among the wives and allows the first wife to fulfil her economic and domestic goals (Epstein, 1982).…”
