Multispiral Computed Tomographic Angiography of Renal Arteries of Live Potential Renal Donors: A Review of 118 Cases

Abstract: The present study showed a 100% sensitivity and specificity in the visualization and detection of main and accessory renal vessels with the use of only 50 mL of intravenous contrast with similar results seen with CA which has so far been considered the "gold standard." The results on MSCTA were also better than those with the use of SSCTA and MRA in the workup of liver renal donors, with the above technique also proving to be more cost effective. The overall incidence of supernumerary vessels was the same as r… Show more

“…The need to obtain repeatable and sufficiently accurate noninvasive tests for the assessment of the individual kidney has prompted research in the field of diagnostic imaging. Numerous studies to date have investigated the application of MRI to functional as well as morphological studies of the kidney [4,7,16]. This application has been made possible by the development of systems with high field gradients and high static magnetic fields, together with a significant technological development of coils and so-called "fast" sequences.…”

“…An assessment of the anatomy may be accomplished by a renal arteriogram, computed tomography (CT) angiogram, or magnetic resonance angiogram, depending on local expertise. The CT angiogram has been shown to be reliably accurate (47).…”

“…Radiological assessment includes computed tomography (CT), renal arteriogram, and magnetic resonance angiography. The CT angiogram has been shown to be reliably accurate [38]. An outline of the evaluations performed for both the donors and recipients are shown in Tables 2 & 3 [6].…”
