Multisystemic Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis Mimicking Diffuse Neonatal Hemangiomatosis

Abstract: We report the first case of multisystemic Langerhans cell histiocytes mimicking diffuse neonatal hemangiomatosis clinically. This has been described in patients with congenital self-healing reticulohistiocytosis but not in patients with acute, disseminated, and multisystemic disease. In our experience, dermoscopic findings did not help to diagnose the condition.

“…Scaly seborrheic‐like lesions in body folds are common as well. However, some of our children presented with more exceptional lesions: a hemangioma‐like lesion (patient 22), as has been described by Rubio‐Gonzalez et al., a varicella‐like eruption (patient 16), as has been reported by Battistella et al., purpura investigated as a blood coagulation problem (patients 8 and 19), and a red‐blue nodule after vaccination (patient 5). This last presentation has never been reported previously.…”

“…In the last two decades, DNH-like eruptions have been described in CSHR [4][5][6] ; however, the condition is rarely reported in multisystemic LCH and demonstrated diffuse hemangiomas as a skin manifestation. [7][8][9] In conclusion, we present herein the fourth case of diffuse hemangioma-like lesions in a patient with multisystemic involvement of LCH. In contrast to the reported patients with hemangioma-like lesions in CSHR, patients with similar lesions but with LCH have a significant risk of developing multisystemic involvement, and therefore LCH must be excluded in the differential diagnosis of DNH.…”
