Multivariate Analysis of a Personal Series of 247 Consecutive Patients with Liver Metastases from Colorectal Cancer

Abstract: In the United States, there are an estimated 5000 to 6000 new patients annually who might be candidates for major hepatic resection to treat their recurrent colon cancer. Since 1971, the program reported here has evaluated various factors that might influence the curative potential of such an approach. Sixty-five patients had a major hepatic resection from March 1971 through May 1982. Using a stepwise proportional hazard analysis, all data that had been stored in CLINFO (a data analysis system by Bolt, Beranek… Show more

“…Fortner et al (25), já na dé-cada de 80 sinalizava a hepatectomia como tratamento curativo das metástases hepáticas colorretais. A partir deste autor que estudou uma casuística de 247 indivíduos operados foi possível de se conhecer os primórdios do entendimento da biologia tumoral das metástases CR e de seu tratamento cirúrgico.…”

“…Table 4 Predictors of Recurrence after Hepatic Resection for Metastatic Colorectal Cancer total percentage of liver involvement, 8 and complete resection. 5,8,11,31 From these results, it appears that a medically fit patient, regardless of age, with metastatic disease that can be encompassed by a surgical resection should be considered for resective surgical therapy. Particularly favorable results should be expected in patients with less than four metastases and a node-negative primary lesion.…”
