Multivariate index of soybean seed vigor: a new biometric approach applied to the effects of genotypes and environments

Abstract: : The objective of this work was to apply a multivariate index of vigor in soybean seeds to identify the differential effects of the genotypes x environments interaction on the quality of the seeds produced in the 2016/2017 harvest season. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design, organized in the factorial scheme, with five seed production environments x 20 soybean genotypes, arranged in four replications. The seed production environments of Tenente Portela - RS and Santa Rosa - RS soybeans a… Show more

“…The phenotypic stability estimates of a genotype reflect the ability to predict the results for the next season, that is, they will indicate the predictability of the response of a given genotype under those growing conditions (Szareski et al., 2018).…”

“…It is worth mentioning that the MTSI index provides improvements in a set of characteristics favorable to the established ideotype (Woyann et al, 2019). For Szareski et al (2018) the differential effects of the genotype x soybean production environment interaction influences by more than 68% the multivariate index of vigor of the seeds produced. The multi-character index was also used successfully by Batista et al (2018) Other strategies to improve and sustain soybean production in P-deficient soils with minimal and efficient application have become a research priority according to Uzokwe et al (2017), like the reality of Cerrado soils that naturally have low levels of this chemical element.…”

“…Applying this methodology in seed analysis allows the formation of clusters according to the parameters presented in the germination and vigor tests of seeds, facilitating a more accurate physiological, qualitative and behavioral characterization as well as management of the lines. In this analysis, the effects of contributions from the characteristics are considered jointly and not only individually, being of great value for selecting superior genotypes for high quality of seeds of legume species such as soybean (Barbosa et al, 2013;Martins et al, 2016;Szareski et al, 2018).…”
