Multiwavelength Generation in a Brillouin Semiconductor Fiber Laser

Abstract: We demonstrate single and multiwavelength operation of a hybrid Brillouin-semiconductor fiber laser. Operation at 1525 nm, 1555 nm, and 1590 nm is possible using a single semiconductor optical amplifier gain medium.

“…Thus, the loop mirror multi-wavelength Brillouin fiber laser (MWBFL) utilizing SOA and reflectivity of FBG has been studied to make an improvement in term or number of channels which is much highest that previous studies in [8]. In this paper, the performance of the BFL utilizing SOA and FBG was demonstrated.…”

“…EDFRLs pumped at 980 or 1480nm wavelengths because of absence of excited state absorption in the wavelengths. The selecting two pump wavelengths are always in terms of conditions, because each one has its advantages [4]. The characteristics of these lasers include: very efficient operation, producing the stable wavelength, very narrow line width, high output power and tuning over a range up to 40nm [5].…”

“…One common way is to divide the broadband source spectrum for selecting the optimal wavelengths [4]. In this case, various configurations like eight figures are the most common solution that adds fiber Sagnac to laser ring cavity [8].…”
