Muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment in supersymmetric theories

Abstract: We study the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment in supersymmetric theories. The impact of the recent Brookhaven E821 experimental measurement on both model-independent and model-dependent supersymmetric parameter spaces is discussed in detail. We find that values of tan\beta as low as 3 can be obtained while remaining within the E821 one-sigma bound. This requires a light smuon; however, we show that, somewhat surprisingly, no model-independent bound can be placed on the mass of the lightest chargino for an… Show more

“…In the case of smuon L-R mixing, some considerations follow from the present value for the muon anomalous magnetic moment, or (g ÿ 2), which is a chirality odd operator and which can arise from L-R mixing in one-loop graphs [42]. The only supersymmetric contribution a to a g ÿ 2 =2 proportional to one single power of the ratio of the muon mass and of supersymmetric particles is in fact proportional to the smuon L-R mixing, and reads…”

“…However, in the general case, already the oneloop contributions have an intricate parameter dependence, as shown on an analytic level in Refs. [32][33][34][35]. We illustrate this variety of possibilities at the one-loop level by Fig.…”

“…They have been computed in the general MSSM in Ref. [33], see also [32,34]. If all relevant SUSY masses are equal to a common scale M SUSY , these contributions can be approximated by 13 × 10 −10 sgn(µ) tan β (100 GeV/M SUSY ) 2 , where µ is the Higgsino mass parameter and tan β = v u /v d is the ratio of the Higgs doublet vacuum expectation values.…”

“…The MSSM contributions to δ (g − 2) µ have been calculated at 1 loop in [7,33,[50][51][52][53] using the mass insertion method. 1 Higher order contributions have been computed in [55][56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63].…”

“…A ∼ 3σ difference with the SM can easily be accommodated in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) , which is rich in particles with the right couplings to provide significant loop contributions to the µµγ vertex. The 1-loop contributions in the MSSM [7,33] are roughly split into those arising from a chargino/sneutrino loop and those given by smuon/neutralino loops, so that at the lowest order the measurement of δ (g − 2) µ can be parametrized by…”
