Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Image‐Based Radiomics for the Diagnosis of Achilles Tendinopathy in Skiers

Abstract: Objectives Our study aimed to develop and validate an efficient ultrasound image‐based radiomic model for determining the Achilles tendinopathy in skiers. Methods A total of 88 feet of skiers clinically diagnosed with unilateral chronic Achilles tendinopathy and 51 healthy feet were included in our study. According to the time order of enrollment, the data were divided into a training set (n = 89) and a test set (n = 50). The regions of interest (ROIs) were segmented manually, and 833 radiomic features were ex… Show more

“…27 A radiomics approach can detect femoroacetabular impingement on MRI with an accuracy of 97% and Achilles tendinopathy on US with an AUC of 0.99. 28,29 Complex radiomic features from cartilage can help predict which patients are predisposed to developing osteoarthritis after ACL reconstruction with a significantly better AUC than just analysis of the T2-weighted sequence (radiomics AUC of 0.97 compared with AUC of 0.73 using the T2 model). 30 Tamez-Peña et al created a ML model with sensitivity and specificity of 0.80 and 0.74, respectively, for detecting patients with postconcussive syndrome based on MRI radiomics.…”

“…12 As an emerging frontier subject, radiomics is the transformation of visual image information into deep-level image features for quantitative analysis and the establishment of an efficient and stable prediction model, thereby aiding in the accurate and objective diagnosis of imaging medicine. 13,14 Ultrasound-based radiomics, while rapidly advancing, presents both challenges and opportunities. At present, studies in various fields, such as obstetrics and those involving the thyroid, breast, liver, and prostate, have explored its applications.…”
