Music information retrieval

Abstract: Welcome friends and colleagues to the 2 nd Annual International Symposium on Music Information Retrieval -ISMIR 2001.Following on the heels of last year's groundbreaking inaugural conference, we're convening with colleagues this year at the beautiful campus of Indiana University, Bloomington. We hope the information exchange fostered by this conference will facilitate innovation and enhance collaboration in this dynamic area of research. This year's program is rich in content and variety. We are honored to hav… Show more

“…We will later present the way that our studies show the emergent nature of metadata as situated and pervading the activities in the workflows that we will discuss. When it comes to understanding metadata from a technical perspective, we are able to see that issues such as interoperability [18,19]; standardizatation [20,21]; semantics [22]; conformity [23]; indexing schemes [9]; abstractions [24]; retrieval and conventions form a great deal of the concerns of the field. That is to say that within a set context, i.e, using metadata to describe bibliographic music-related data, for example using a National Library of Congress system such as MARC21 [25] (Machine Readable Cataloguing), metadata can be defined as that which, …provides the mechanism by which computers exchange, use, and interpret…informa-tion, and its data'' [26].…”

“…The goal of our study is to create a library of vocal expressions and styles that can be applied to consumer-generated media and music information retrieval [1]. Such a library would enable the vocal expressions of favorite singers to be transferred other songs by using a singing voice synthesis system, such as the Vocaloid [2], and retrieval of songs based on singing style.…”
