Muslim Women, Sport, and Social Media

Abstract: This entry addresses the use of social media by Muslim sportswomen. Social media augment another layer where everyday lives are mediated both online and off‐line. The depiction of how individuals are represented in the media can have repercussions, both positive and negative. To date, the literature on Muslim sportswomen has focused on the Olympic Games or on their participation in physical activity, but with the rise of new media, Muslim women are using social media in various ways.
